The western portion of our nation is like a whole different world for those of us that grew up on the east coast. The mountains are bigger, the air is thinner, and the humidity is almost non-existent. The campgrounds are different out here too, especially when you get to more desert, dry areas. In western Colorado, just off of Interstate 70 at the edge of Grand Junction, is a great campground called Junction West RV Park. This campground gives you that western desert feel, with a mostly gravel campground, carefully planned out green areas (since the desert doesn’t normally grow luscious grass like other areas), and the perfect amount of trees and vegetation!
When you first pull into the campground and make your way to the front desk, you are welcomed by some of the friendliest staff around. From the women at the front desk, or the workers outside, everyone seems to be happy to work at Junction West RV Park. The staff will give you a rundown of all the amenities the park offers, and then another staffer will lead you to your site. The majority of the sites are pull-through sites, that are double wide! This is great if you have slide outs, or want to put a trailer or vehicle beside your rig. These big, spacious sites are also very clean and level, making setting up camp so easy! The park also offers a few back-in sites, that have great grassy areas next to them, which are perfect for tent camping as well!
Our kids immediately ran to the playground and splash pad! The splash pad is great to keep them cool in the hot desert sun and, along with the playground, kept our kids entertained until dark! There was also a nice dog area for our puppy. It was clean and you could tell well maintained. We also explored the recreational room, which held exercise equipment, pin-ball and a TV to watch. The office has a small store that sells anything you could possibly need while camping, from fire starters, to RV toilet paper, to you favorite ice cream! And the laundry room was clean and prices were reasonable! The laundry room also has a small book exchange library, which I just had to take part in!
The most important thing, for us anyways, are the restrooms. We don’t shower in our rig, unless we are boondocking (and even then we usually wait), so we really judge a campground on how clean and well maintained are their showers and restrooms. At Junction West RV Park they have showers/restrooms included in your price to stay and they are very nice! The showers were always clean and there were enough stalls that you don’t have to wait! We were very pleased with the restrooms here, and they alone would give this park five stars!
Junction West RV Park is definitely a top notch campground, and a great place for anyone to stay. The views of the Colorado National Monument and Boofcliff Mountains are breathtaking! The prices are comparable to the area, and they offer many discounts! For all the amenities they offer, and the well maintained, clean park, it is definitely worth the price. If you’re just driving by and need a place to stop for the night, or are planning on exploring all that this area has to offer, Junction West RV Park should be your number one place to stop!
